When Dev Pilky was a child, he was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. Dev was so disruptive in the classroom that the teachers made him sit in the hallway every day. Luckily, Dev loved to draw and make up stories. He spent his time in the hallway creating his own original comics, the very first adventures of Dogman and Captain Underpants.
In college, Dev met a teacher who encouraged him to illustrate and write. He won a national competition in 1986 and the prize was the publication of his first book, World War Victory. He wrote many other books before being awarded the California Young Reader's Medal in 1998 for Dog's Breath, which was published in 1994, and in 1997 he received the Caldecott Award for The Paperboy.
We bought these for our 8 year old granddaughter who loves to read (if she's interested in the content). Now she looks forward to reading in the evening when she comes to visit. Most of the words she learns, but there are enough new words, so she is constantly expanding her vocabulary and self-confidence.
Great for beginning readers learning context and building vocabulary. Got a series for my 1st grader son, huge success - I've tried many ways to get him to love reading. He always looks forward to our daily sessions of reading these wonderful books together!
I have been reading to my son since he was a baby, but since he is now 5 years old, many of his books are too childish for him. We bought him this and he loves it. He looks forward to reading before bed. We read 2-3 chapters a night.
David Pilka's hugely popular Dogman series engages readers of all ages and explores universally positive themes, including empathy, kindness, perseverance, and the importance of being true to yourself.

The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby, published in 2002, was the first full-length graphic novel spin-off of the Captain Underpants series and was #6 on the USA Today bestseller list of all books for adults and children alike. and also a York Times Bestseller. It was followed by "The Adventures of Eye and Glitch: Kung Fu Cavemen from the Future" and "Super Diaper 2: Invasion of the Pot Thief" which became USA Today bestsellers. The unconventional style of these graphic novels is designed to encourage the free creativity of children.
We believe in the power of reading for all children and that everyone should be able to see themselves and their experiences in a book. That's why we create books that educate, inspire, entertain and help children understand the world we live in.
A lot of new things have been added to this book, they have added a Meet the Actors section where all the characters are described, such as their strengths and weaknesses. I have to say that it was a little (actually, not a lot, MUCH) shorter, but MUCH more emotional. Sadness, evil, goodness and LOVE! It talks about Petey's past (when Sarah interviews him), her mom, and him when he was young. After Petey's father left them, they started from scratch, life was hard. But his mother never lost hope, she forgave him, always believed in him and always said: "Love lasts forever and ever." When Sarah interviews him to talk about his past, he says that he realized that Baby Petey was just like his mom, Baby Petey, never lost hope, he forgave Petey, he believed in him.
I hope you didn't cry reading this, it's quite emotional, right?
ANYWAY, going back to unemotional things, the enemies in this book were two throats. And Big Jim and Grandpa did it (for some reason it's not Grandpa).
And I didn't know that Chief PRESSURED Nurse Lady~~ Oh La La~~
At the beginning of the story, a dog owner is injured when a toilet seat falls into his arms while drinking from the toilet. So, he has to wear a cane (a thing that dogs wear to avoid licking or biting a certain place on their body), the dog owner is worried that he will be bullied because the cane looked ridiculous. So, Baby Petey makes him a "special" cane and tells him to push the button when it's dangerous (like bullies). When he arrives at the police station the cops are right there
